I could probably tell you a story about most of the Weddings I’ve worked on. In fact, I’ve even thought about writing a book! Today, I thought I would bring to your THE SECRETS OF A WEDDING PLANNER!
The important thing is, though, 99% of the Weddings have taken place and the happy Couples have not been aware of anything – Why? Because I was there to take care of everything!
Here are some of my secrets….. (In true Friends style!)
THE ONE WHERE THE BAR RAN DRY

This particular Wedding, from early on I could see there was not going to be enough drinks at the Bar- but there was plenty for the reception drinks on arrival. My solution – Don’t open the Bar until after the meal and hope the Guests are enjoying the Wine on the tables!
THE ONE WHERE THE BRIDAL CAR BROKE DOWN ON THE WAY TO THE CHURCH
This was over to the Best Man to keep the Guests entertained before the Ceremony (He did fail to tell the Groom about his Bride’s delay, which led him to sheer panic. You can always rely on the Best Man for the jokes!)
My job here was to work with the Suppliers, in particular the Caterer’s to adjust all the timings for the Reception.
THE ONE WHERE IT RAINED ALL DAY…
… And the marquee floor leaked. We moved the poseur tables to cover puddles and adjusted some of the other tables. I also cleaned up the wet toilet floor so the Bride could go the toilet floor without getting the bottom of her dress all wet and muddy.
THE ONE WHERE THE BRIDESMAID DRESS SPLIT…
Fortunately, I have a sewing kit in my Wedding Tool kit, and turned into a sewing bee at that wedding, one of my secrets of a wedding planner.
THE ONE WHERE ALL THE GUESTS WERE DRUNK…
Not too unusual at a Wedding you say, however:
There was a Gin Bar, a Beer Barrow, lots of wine and champagne on tables and sometimes, too much can spell danger. Especially if you have organised a Cash Bar for the evening.
If you’re having free drinks during the day, make sure you don’t give your Guests too much, else they won’t bother to use the Bar on the evening and it could end up costing you more money.
THE ONE WHERE THE POWER KEPT TRIPPING…
If you’re having a marquee in your Garden, please, hire a generator. Your household power supply wont cope with a Catering kitchen, extra lighting, entertainment etc. I spent most of this particular wedding doing lots of running back and forth from the marquee to the house resetting the trip switch.
