Where you have your Wedding Reception is one of the biggest decisions in all of your Wedding Planning process.
Here is a guide on what to ask your Wedding Venue before you secure a booking:
1. IS MY WEDDING DATE AVAILABLE?
This may sound obvious, but if your date is not available, you could either consider an alternative date or you will need to look for another Venue – there is no point going any further.
2. IS VAT INCLUDED?
If this is an added extra on top of prices quoted, it can have a huge impact on your budget.
3. DO THE WEDDING VENUE ALLOW PAYMENTS IN INSTALLMENTS?
Again, this will really help with your budget planning
4. WHEN CAN YOU HAVE ACCESS TO SET UP?
This is a biggy if you’re having a DIY Wedding, and ideally needs to be the day before. If you’re having a Hotel Wedding and your Ceremony is quite early, you need to make sure that all of your Suppliers can get access early enough to have it all set up ready for you.
5. CAN WE BRING OUR OWN ALCOHOL?
With DIY Venues, this is not normally a problem, but a lot of other Wedding Venues will charge a corkage fee if you take your own alcohol. This could work out more costly for you than purchasing the drink from the Wedding Venue.
6. DOES THE WEDDING VENUE HAVE A PAID BAR OPTION?
If it’s a DIY Wedding Venue, check in advance whether they take card payments and let your Guests know in advance so they can bring cash
7. ARE THERE CONTINGENCY PLANS IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER?
This is mainly for items such as for photographs, but it may also need to be considered if you’re having an outdoor wedding.
8. ARE FIREWORKS ALLOWED?
Heads up: Many Wedding Venues no longer allow fireworks, so if you’re thinking of having some pyrotechnics – check with your Wedding Venue first.
9. DOES THE WEDDING VENUE PROVIDE CUTLERY, TABLE LINEN, TABLES AND CHAIRS?
Another one mainly for DIY Venues, but also some other Wedding Venues may provide table linen, but it is usually white. If you have to hire items to match your wedding colour theme, get quotes for this first as it will have another impact on your wedding budget.
10. WHAT TIME ARE YOU LICENCED TO? – CAN WE NEGOTIATE A FINISH TIME?
Some Venues have a specific finish time especially the bar, however if your Guests are residents e.g. a Hotel, the Venue may allow them to carry on partying – with pre-brought drinks.
**NB: DIY Wedding Venues can refer to marquees, village halls, barns etc. for example
