I love marquee weddings. You can have your day as you want it, your food choice, have your space styles, and decorate how you want. Even more importantly, you can have your Reception wherever you want (within reason and provided there is space for a marquee, of course)
There are some things you need to consider when having a marquee wedding, though:
What is your wedding budget?
You need to think about everything. Who provides the table and chairs? You need a generator to power lighting, entertainment, catering, etc. You need to think about lighting, depending on when you are getting married, you may need heating, and don’t forget the toilets.
Choose your Marquee provider wisely. A good company will give you a package with most of these items included in the cost.
How many guests are coming?
You don’t want a huge marquee, and your Guests look lost. Similarly, you don’t want a space that’s too small, and everyone is cramped.
Is the ground even where you want the marquee to be?
Marquee companies can adjust the ground to suit, but they need to visit first.
Is your Wedding going to be informal or formal?
Create the look that you want with the style of furniture and also the marquee.
If you want a formal wedding, you may want to consider the marquee to be lined with drapes. If you’re going informal, rustic tables will create the perfect look.
When would you like the marquee erected and dismantled?
Remember, a marquee wedding is also a DIY Wedding. You will be doing most of the setting up and clearing away yourself, so make sure you leave enough time before and after your Wedding to get this done.
Do you need to inform anybody of your marquee hire?
Some venues have marquee weddings regularly and therefore will not need any permission. If you have a marquee in your garden and you are having a wedding late into the early hours of the morning? Think about your neighbours.
You will also need to contact your local Council and apply for a Temporary Events Notice (Costs about £21.00)
Do you need insurance
Most marquee companies will have their own public liability insurance. Still, it is doubtful that it will cover your Wedding.
Those are just some things to consider for marquee weddings when choosing what marquee to have. There are some other things that you need to think about as well:
If you have a bar, do you need a licence?
Will you need help decorating the marquee and cleaning up afterward? You would be surprised how long it takes to decorate a marquee. If your budget will allow, it is advisable to hire a venue decorator unless you have countless friends and family to help you. Likewise, there is a lot of clearing up to do afterwards for marquee weddings. Who is going to do this?
Are you going to employ staff on the day? Think about the following:
Who is going to clear your tables for you after the wedding meal?
Who is going to move your tables to make way for a dancefloor?
Do you need Staff to wash all of the glasses?
Who is going to ensure that the toilets are kept clean?
Who will serve the drinks? particularly if you have a free bar
Marquee weddings take a lot of planning and organising.
Hopefully, this has given you an insight into the sort of things to think about.
