My latest Wedding to coordinate was one with a difference. Normally my coordination service ends when Couples have performed the first dance, and caterers served the evening food. PJ and Caroline’s Wedding was the other way round. Because they were already married I was coordinating the evening reception! Why? Because they were married in 2020, in the middle of the coronavirus restrictions.
On 5th September 2020, PJ and Caroline officially got married at Cheswell Grange in Newport with a select audience. Sadly, because of the restrictions in place at the time, they were unable to celebrate their big day as normal.
Fast forward to the week after their first wedding anniversary. Finally, PJ and Caroline could, at last, have the evening reception that they wanted. The location: back to where they got married, of course. Cheswell Grange in Newport, Shropshire. With no restrictions, they were able to have their marquee wedding reception. The Boathouse was used again as a memory area for their Wedding Ceremony displaying their Wedding album from last year.
During our pre-wedding meeting in August, we talked about how they would decorate the Marquee. The answer was with flowers. Susannah, owner of Cheswell Grange, “why don’t you use the flowers from our garden.” So on Friday afternoon before the wedding reception, Caroline and her family did just that – raided the garden and picked some beautiful flowers for the Marquee. The look of less is more; it worked as it looked gorgeous.
Light-up love letters provided by Illuminate FX set the dance floor off perfectly too.
Food and Drink
Upon arrival, The Guys at Five Star Bar Company greeted guests with a glass of prosecco, providing the Bar for the evening.
Caroline’s Father made a lovely speech just before food was served. The speech mentioned that a day is as long as a year in Venus, which described Caroline and PJ’s Wedding perfectly. Their Wedding Day had lasted a year!
Pro-Roasts were on hand with their BBQ to provide Burgers, Hot Dogs, and a selection of salads, while later, those with sweet tooths were able to get a sugar fix from the delicious Crepes with a choice of fillings.
Most people gathered and chatted outside the Marquee or were able to play noughts and crosses, Frisbee basketball, Connect 4, or Jenga with the garden games, again provided by Illuminate FX.
As the night got darker, the Guests moved into the Marquee to hit the dancefloor accompanied by a DJ supplied by JP Audio Visual.
As a reminder of Caroline and PJ’s special day, Guests could pose in front of the Magic Photo Mirror with an array of props.
As this was a Wedding with a difference, and PJ and Caroline are the most chilled out people I know, there weren’t many formalities. The Father of the Bride speech that I’ve already mentioned was a very relaxed affair.
Caroline works at a Zoo, and both she and PJ are lovers of animals, so it was only fitting that the Wedding Cake was appropriate to both of them. They cut the cake before moving to the dance floor for their first dance of Close Your Eyes by Michael Bublé.
Dan Round Photography captured the evening, who photographed the Wedding Ceremony in 2020 also.
If you got married in 2020 and are not sure whether to have a delayed evening reception. Do it. It’s a perfect way to celebrate your day with friends and family and create more memories. It’s also an ideal way to be able to wear your Wedding outfit again!
